The Acoustic and Instability Waves of Jets Confined inside an Acoustically Lined Rectangular Duct
نویسنده
چکیده
An analysis of linear wave modes associated with supersonic jets con ned inside an acoustically lined rectangular duct is presented. Mathematical formulations are given for the vortex-sheet model and continuous mean ow model of the jet ow pro les. Detailed dispersion relations of these waves in a two-dimensional con ned jet as well as an uncon ned free jet are computed. E ects of the con ning duct and the liners on the jet instability and acoustic waves are studied numerically. It is found that the e ect of the liners is to attenuate waves that have supersonic phase velocities relative to the ambient ow. Numerical results also show that the growth rates of the instability waves could be reduced signi cantly by the use of liners. In addition, it is found that the upstream propagating neutral waves of an uncon ned jet could become attenuated when the jet is con ned. ||||||||||||||||| This work was supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under NASA Contract NAS1-19480 while the author was in residence at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering, NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA 23665, USA.

Modulational instability of dust ion acoustic waves in astrophysical dusty plasmas with non thermal electrons
Propagation of dust ion acoustic waves in plasmas composed of nonthermal distributed electrons and stationary dust particles is investigated. Nonlinear Schrdinger equation is derived to describe small amplitude waves, using the reduction perturbation technique. Modulation instability of dust ion acoustic waves is analysed for this system. Parametric investigation indicates that growth rate of...

Floating breakwaters are good alternative to the so-called fixed base breakwaters, which, in addition to having the main purpose of protecting the beach from waves, also maintain the water connection between the sea and the protected area. Researchers in order to increase the efficiency and increase the performance range of floating breakwaters, have done many researches on their effective para...
متن کاملTime-domain characterization of the acoustic damping of a perforated liner with bias flow.
Combustion instabilities are caused by the interaction of unsteady heat releases and acoustic waves. To mitigate combustion instabilities, perforated liners, typically subjected to a low Mach number bias flow (a cooling flow through perforated holes), are fitted along the bounding walls of a combustor. They dissipate the acoustic waves by generating vorticity at the rims of perforated apertures...
متن کاملA classification of duct modes based on surface waves
For the relatively high frequencies relevant in a turbofan engine duct, the modes of a lined section may be classified in two categories: genuine acoustic 3D duct modes resulting from the finiteness of the duct geometry, and 2D surface waves that exist only near the wall surface in a way essentially independent of the rest of the duct. Per frequency and circumferential order there are at most f...
